Kibale National Park | Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Uganda

This primate capital of the world is found in Fort Portal region in true tropical forest of Kibale. In the south of Kibale lays Queen Elizabeth national park, Toro Semuliki wildlife reserve along mountain Rwenzori National Park. It is one of Uganda gratifying park to discover a lot of attraction. It is situated near a peaceful Ndali-Kasenda crater lake.

It is a host of a variety of wildlife although mostly famous for its 13 species of primates including chimpanzees which it is well known for with a population of about 1450 chimpanzees. It has the biggest number of chimpanzees in Africa and the best destination for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. But this man’s closet relative is not all about the park has to offer. The other primates include the black and white colobus monkey, red tailed monkey, the blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboon, bush baby and the potto.

The park has other mammals which include the elephants, buffaloes, leopards, bush pig and the duikers although these are rarely seen. Kibale national park has some reptile types and amphibians as well as butterflies. The park is blessed with over 325 species of birds. These include blue headed sun bird, purple-breasted sun bird among others.

Kibale is has a wide range of tourist activities such as hiking, cultural encounters and nature walks, a visit to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary, wildlife photography, butterfly watching, bird watching and the park icon activity of chimpanzee trekking. Most of the chimpanzees in Kibale National Park are habituated which gives the trekkers a great opportunity to track and watch them as they do their daily activities.

Besides chimps, Kibale national park has varying vegetation caused by the different altitudes of the park. It has the dense ever green tropical forests, savannah and wood lands. These are made by the different types of tree species including the great iron wood tress.

The chimpanzee capital is well known for research as many scientists from all sorts and corners of the world do use Kibale as a research centre mainly because of its natural endowment full of biodiversity.
