Honeymoon in Uganda is the best choice for memorable romantic getaways in Uganda. Renowned as one of the continent’s most exotic and romantic destinations, Uganda is a honeymoon couple’s dream. So, if you’ve decided on Uganda for your special honeymoon, here are some tips to keep in mind when planning your unforgettable romantic holiday.
Don’t put too much on your plate.
When planning your Uganda honeymoon safari, keep in mind that travel within Uganda is extensive. And travel times between destinations can be long. This is why we recommend choosing just 1 – 2 destinations to visit and spending 3 – 5 days at each hotel, camp, or lodge that you visit. This way, you’re not overwhelming yourself with lots of draining car drives.

There is practically an infinite amount of things to see and do in Uganda – it’s one of the most diverse country on the continent! So when you’re planning your honeymoon be sure to list out some of your biggest interests. This way, you can specifically look for destinations within Uganda that cater to those interests. You’ll most likely find that many of the destinations within Uganda are diverse and can cater to ALL your interests!
To help you start planning out your trip, I’ve listed some interests below and the destinations I recommended for them:
- Fishing – The Ssese islands of Lake Victoria are exceptional fishing spots.
- Beaches – You can’t go wrong with the unspoiled beaches of the Ssese islands archipelago in the north west of Lake Victoria. . . Stunning . . .
- Photography – Some of the most stunning and dramatic landscapes can be found in Lake Bunyonyi, but if you’re looking for wildlife photography, I recommend Queen Elizabeth National Park.
- Hiking – Uganda has some incredible hiking routes, especially the Rwenzori Mountains. Hiking around the Virunga volcanoes in south western Uganda is also exceptional
- Boating / Canoeing – Any of the lake regions are wonderful but I love Ssese Islands and Lake Bunyonyi for Canoeing. Also, Queen Elizabeth Park and Jinja are have exceptional boating.
- Adventure activities such as white water rafting, zip line tours, quad bikes, horseback riding – Definitely Jinja is the best spot for white water rafting, while zip line tours in Mabira forest and Quad biking which can also be done at Ssese islands. As for horseback riding, some of my favorite destination is Lake Mburo National Park where you ride in the wild – there are no lions, so don’t be afraid.
- Bird watching – Bird watching is exceptional in plenty, Uganda is Africa’s best birding destinations with over 1061 species of bird!
3. Book with an African travel expert.
This is a biggie. Planning a honeymoon holiday in Uganda can be highly challenging when you don’t know much about the romantic destinations within the country. Not to mention it can be super stressful sifting through accommodation and activity reviews online. When you book your honeymoon trip with a trusted Uganda vacation expert, they’ll make sure your itinerary is in line with your exact interests and needs. They’ll also equip you with all the travel information and updates you need to experience a stress-free honeymoon. Uganda’s travel experts know the best places for you to stay (based on your interests, needs, and preferences), so you won’t ever end up at a lodge that caters to kids and families!
4. Decide your budget before planning.
A luxury honeymoon can get to be quite expensive! So, when you’re planning your honeymoon, make sure your Uganda travel expert understands your exact needs, preferences, and budget. He or she will then try to create an itinerary that falls within your budget while still speaking to your interests.
5. Prepare your travel documents and get any necessary medication(s).
Last minute scrambling for travel documents, and medications, can be a nightmare. And having a stressful start to your honeymoon is certainly not the way to go! So make sure that once you book your travel dates that your passport is valid for at least another 6 months after you return home from your trip. You also want to be sure you receive any vaccinations you need at least one month prior to travel. Ask your Uganda travel expert what the recommended shots and medications, and also make an appointment with a Passport Health near you (they will recommend shots and medications, as well, and will administer the shots and provide medication prescriptions if you need any).
Ugandan destinations are quickly becoming more and more popular for honeymoons. Whether it’s a safari, an island holiday, or a road trip, Ugandan honeymoons deliver the goods.
